Maybe I'm getting old and crabby but I am getting to the point where I just don't suffer fools anymore. I had an interesting experience this evening and thought I would share -

I work a 12 hour second shift so I am out with all the late night animals. I was went to a 711 to score a Slushie and normally there are few folks around.

This night I noticed a small group of teens which doesn't bother me ( I was young and used to do the same thing a million years ago). The part that set my alarm off was the big kid swinging a 3 iron around - hmmm, might keep an eye on that one. They are hanging around the entrance talking and as I approach the group I descreetly slip my Military out and have it in hand and thumb in the blade hole.

All Mr. 3 iron has to do is even point that thing at me and I'm gonna shove the blade all the way down to the hing pin into his eye socket.

I got my slushie without issue so it really turned into a non-story, which was great cause I really didn't feel like cleaning my knife again.

Moral of the story is to "Be Prepared" and "Be Aware" - p.s. carry a wicked sharp, big knife :)

Has anyone else been comforted by a piece of steel ?

As much as I would like to give you a "+1 for crabby", I'm all about situational awareness. I'm surprised you had just one though...haha.

And if you step one foot into Chicago City you instantly feel comforted by your blade. Since we have no carry laws in IL it is better than nothing even though it wouldn't be my first choice in any other state. I have mentioned it a few times but reading through this article should help you understand how important it is to carry a blade even if your going outside to get the mail [MANIX SAVES A LIFE]

There was a time where I have actually reversed gripped the knife and bent my hand back enough to hide the open blade along my forearm while walking in some sketchy looking places.

I will give you a +1 for slushies though!
ya - the double gulp Slushie rocks! :)
Nothing wrong with knowing what's around you and trying to avoid trouble. If the guy in the story would have had a Civilian, the assailant's guts would have been hanging out. Rake one of those things across the ribs , and down across the stomach it would have been ugly.
I agree being aware is what makes the most difference. Sometimes I think I'm being "paranoid" about some things but then again a heightened sense of awareness is better than just shrugging it off.

I love the Military :) Nice and big so people don't mess with it!!!

I needs me a Civilian though....
Yes Vic you do........A Tuffram one. You just think a Military is scary looking!
lol Ya I have held the G10 version and like it, the blade on the civilian is just wicked... I would love to get a Matriarch but if I get one of the new ones the brown frn is going to be dyed black...

My Yojimbo is another knife I like for self defense. Even thought he blade is shorter, it would be very easy to stab it through clothing.
Mine is an old school MIli -

G10, combo edge, CPM440V - got it when they first came out. :)

Love that blade!
I have a BG-42 Millie with polished scales, it's pretty pimp.I carry it a lot.
Just touched up my Military. I have been carrying the Tenacious a lot lately. I didn't realize how much I missed it.
Ya - mine is in rotation a lot lately.

Really wish I could get one in a "tip up" config -
