Tenacious vs Persistence vs Sage
I don't have a Spyderco knife yet but am looking to purchase one soon. I constantly look on websites and Youtube to see reviews. Just want to get an opinion, the Sage is pretty expensive too. Considering Spyderco Cat aswell

Sage FTW
The persistence and tenacious are both great starter knives though. Both use G10 which is a great material especially at the price point. But the sage just has so many nice featurs. Low riding clip carbon fiber scales, and s30v steel. It is a super slicer and is pretty lightweight. It's worth the extra coin imo!!!!

well, i don't have a sage or a persistance, but the tenacious i just got is one hell of a knife for the money spent. as an entry level knife, it's got spyderco quality written all over it. came razor sharp out of the box, has excellent lockup and excellent ergo's! if it didn't say china on it you would think its made in golden. the full flat grind allows it to slice like a champ and the wide blade is great too. my blade is perfectly centered in the handle when closed, is flickable and easy to close one-handed. i would recomend this knife to anyone, regardless of the price. don't think this is a "cheap" knife by any means, it performs well beyond it's pricetag!

Dude - there is absolutly no reason not to own a Tenacious, NO REASON!
it's affordable - (thanks Mike at Spydie Talk)
has tip up/down ability
really good piece of steel
rounded handle end - (important to us fat old men)
quality stong steel liner and liner lock unheard of in this price range
decent jimping and placed correctly
subdued grey/silver, well designed pocket clip
solid lockup and strong enough to probably punch thru a sternum - (probably not required for most users)
I have the plain edge and will be ordering a combo next (my fav in most blade configurations)
Run - do not walk and order/buy/whatever one of these while they are available and affordable - what are you doing still reading this - Get going!

I have to say, I'm not all sold out on the tenacious and persistence like some people are. Just because its a Spyderco that you can nab for 30 or so bucks, does not necessarily make it a great deal. Yes they come sharp from the factory, but the knockoff Chinese steel that these knives employ will not hold that edge for long. Some people have compared 8CR13MOV to AUS8, and I can tell you firsthand that it will not perform nearly as well as AUS 8. Save up the money, and go with the Sage, S30V steel in an edc blade is something that you will be grateful for.

May not hold a edge as long but easier to sharpen and if you don't have or want to spend the cash for the sage the persistence would be my choice I carry mine every day in my bag or pocket and I have alot of other much more expensive knifes. I say start there and build up.

Well - I missed some of the follow up posts on this thread and I have a question for Elliott, are you trying to be Mr. Poopy-pants?
There is nothing wrong with the Tenacious steel being soft - I compare it in feel to ATS-55. Sharp enough and more important the ability to be sharpened!
Ever guy I know with the harder steels is not getting a good edge unless they are using the diamond sticks :)
Just a quick glance at Spyderco's website and look at the prices -
Sage = $179
Persistence = 49
Tenacious = $54
Yes the Sage is nicer but let's not forget we can get a bunch more knives and actually USE them when we arn't afraid to use 'em -
Just putting it out there - I am aware the thread is old, but hey, so am I :P
Safe queen's are not fun - they just make you afraid to use them/loose them

I just want to keep the thread alive, and to give my 2c.
I think one of the biggest disadvantage of the 8crMov steel, that it will stain (rust) like crazy compared to CPM S30v. Well of course it wont rust as a carbon steel, but compared amongst stainless steels it is at the bottom of the rust resistance charts. Think about the knife as an investment. If you save up for a Sage and you look after the knife chances are that you will give it to your son and he will pass it to your grandson. I'm not fully convinced that would be the case with the Tenacious or with the persistence. If you want a beater get them, but if you want something that is built to last and you can trust your life on it if shtf than buy a Sage. As with everything in life you get what you pay for.
